I confronted a handful of my math and electricity teachers with this problem during classes. It's funny how they usually freeze for a couple of minutes, unable to resist the temptation to try and solve it. My linear control teacher even spent a full 15 minutes not giving class to think about it. My favourite math teacher told me to come back the next week, which I did. He simply walked to me (ooh, how I hate it that I was sleeping during his class at that very moment), and quickly said: it has an elegant solution, then left. He wouldn't tell me more. I ended up solving the problem empirically with a Matlab simulation but ... it simply doesn't taste like victory at all.

So, there IS a solution, I'm happy to hear that :P. I will work on it during my holidays, I'll tell you if I find something ^^
